What is lobbying?

Tobacco, alcohol, food processing, or agriculture… Many economic activities are subject to lobbying by groups, also known as interest groups or pressure groups. Often criticized for their lack of transparency, these interest groups play a significant role in the life of entire sectors of the economy. Their influence is measured by their ability to sway laws, regulations, or the establishment of standards (industrial standards, for example), serving the economic group they represent, and often to the detriment of the common good.
