What are hybrid organizations?

It is often simplistic and easy to summarize the business world as a universe composed of public organizations, owned and funded by the state, and private, for-profit organizations funded by private interests. In reality, many organizations are neither entirely one nor the other. Hybrid organizations pursue a mission of public interest while simultaneously facing the commercial and mercantile logics necessary to sustain their activities and development. Hybrid organizations exist at the intersection of logics and pressures that are difficult to manage and constitute fertile ground for paradoxes and paradoxical tensions.
